The Data

Five FMCSA datasets.
One carrier score.

FMCSA publishes carrier safety data across five separate programs and datasets. None of them are joined at the carrier level. WeighStation ingests all five, links them by DOT number, and produces a single scored intelligence record per carrier.

The result: a complete safety, financial stability, and compliance profile for every active carrier — updated daily from FMCSA's open data program.

25.6% of carriers with 500+ trucks score RED tier. Fleet size is the strongest single risk predictor in the dataset — counterintuitive for buyers who assume larger carriers are safer. The data says the opposite.

24-Month Crash Window
WeighStation scores on trailing 24-month crash data — separating current operational risk from accumulated historical counts. Fatal crashes weighted 25x, injury crashes 5x, total crashes 2x in the Crash Risk component.

OOS Rate
Out-of-Service Rate
Vehicle and driver OOS rates from SMS data measure inspection failure frequency. High OOS rates are a direct predictor of crash risk and regulatory action. Carriers with vehicle OOS rates above 34% are automatically flagged.

A 100-point composite carrier risk score. Higher scores indicate safer, more stable carriers. Four components, weighted by their predictive value for adverse events. Methodology fully disclosed.

Green
Score 80–100. Low risk. Clean safety record, stable insurance, no revocations.
Yellow
Score 50–79. Moderate risk. One or more elevated signals — elevated inspection failure rate, prior cancellation, or marginal BASIC scores.
Red
Score 0–49. High risk. Multiple stress signals. 1,136 active carriers currently rated RED.
